July & August Recruiting Guide: Making a Recruiting Impact
As we turn the corner into the second half of summer, the recruiting landscape is about to speed up—especially for high-academic student-athletes, and especially for the classes of 2026 and 2027. Whether you’re a rising senior in the class of 2026, a rising junior in the class of 2027, or a 2028 or 2029 just getting started, there’s still meaningful opportunity ahead of you this summer in your recruiting at high-academic schools. But to take full advantage, you’ll need to be intentional and proactive about getting exposure that moves the needle.
This is your July & August Recruiting Guide: a roadmap to help you navigate your next steps, target the right exposure, and make your time and energy count.
Class of 2026: Crunch Time for Exposure, Coach Communication, and Results
For rising seniors, July and August are all about results. There is still a lot of road left in your recruiting, and the calendar is still in your favor—but only if you’re being proactive, intentional, and efficient.
College programs at the high-academic level (from Ivy League to NESCAC and everywhere in between) are working now through August to evaluate and commit their 2026 class. That means there’s still opportunity—but also urgency. These schools are making decisions in real-time.
We know that many rising seniors start feeling the pressure this time of year. If you’re experiencing “recruiting FOMO,” you’re not alone—this is the time when athletes and families start to worry that they’re falling behind. But the key is not to do everything—it’s to do the right things.
This means:
At Headfirst, we’ve seen this summer window deliver real outcomes in real-time, with players committing to schools both at camp and in the days and weeks following.
💡 Takeaway: If you haven’t been getting attention from tournaments so far this summer, you don’t need more exposure—you need the right exposure. And the time to act is now.
Class of 2027: August 1 Is Coming—Get on Coaches’ Lists Now
For 2027 grads, July and August is your prime time for positioning. While commitments won’t be widespread yet at high-academic programs, many Division 1 coaches are using this window to build their recruiting lists, identify top targets, and get organized before recruiting-specific conversations can begin on August 1. While most high-academic programs won’t be heavily committing players as soon as they’re allowed to by NCAA rules, 2027s who are targeting D1 programs are well-served to get exposure before the August 1 date so that you can be on their radar.
Here’s what July and August mean for you:
💡 Takeaway: This is the summer to get seen—so that when August hits, you’re already on the list.
Class of 2028 & Younger: Build Your Foundation Now
If you’re a 2028 or 2029, the groundwork that you can start laying now can pay dividends later on in your recruiting.
For underclassmen, summer showcases aren’t just about recruiting today—they’re about building familiarity, reps, and relationships that pay off later. College coaches—especially at Division 1 programs—are using this time to begin identifying players for the future, even if formal conversations are still a year or more away.
By attending a showcase this summer, you can:
💡 Takeaway: Be proactive. The exposure you get now builds momentum and confidence for the future.
Final Thoughts: Rest, Recover, and Stay Ready
Summer recruiting can feel like a sprint—and it’s important to balance that push with recovery. For all classes, pacing is essential: plan your exposure, build in rest days, and stay mentally and physically sharp so that you can be peaking and at your best at the right time, when the eyes are on you.
At Headfirst, we believe in efficient, high-impact opportunities—where you’re not overextended, but where you have the exposure and access you need to move your recruiting forward. For high-academic student-athletes, more isn’t necessarily better if it’s not high-quality exposure to the programs that are on your list.
Whether you’re chasing commitments in the class of 2026, building momentum for August 1 as a 2027, or laying the groundwork as a 2028 or younger—this summer is still full of potential.
Make the most of it. We’re here to help.
